A big -1 to windows 8 dev preview. Worst implemented desktop ever.
Few months back I bought an android phone which at that time came with android 2.2. It was working all well except battery life. Overall I was a proud owner.
Last week I upgraded the firmware to android 2.3.4 through official updates. Now battery lasts longer and I feel overall improvement in performance. As a bonus, I get new slick looking icons to make interface look more pleasing.
So that’s the story, I remain to be a proud owner!
I’ve updated my desktop to use Kubuntu 11.04 from previous setup of Kubuntu 10.10. Kubuntu 11.04 comes with KDE SC 4.6.2.
My laptop is now triple booting with Vista, Kubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity interface.
P.S. I’ve updated the desktop to KDE SC 4.6.3 via Kubuntu updates ppa. Laptop installation is still to be updated.

Check it out at KDE Website
I’ve already updated my kubuntu 9.10 setup to KDE SC 4.4 from backport repo. It look impressive at first glance. I will play with it later.

This is just a quick post letting the world know that a new version of Ubuntu Operating System is released.
I will post a review once I install it.
Last week Ubuntu 9.04 (Juanty Jackalope) Alpha 6 was released, read the Release Notes.
I downloaded the copy and installed it on my desktop and it rocks.. even at alpha stage..!!! It takes only 22 seconds to boot and present the login screen after I select it from GRUB menu and hit the enter key..very fast. A new dark login screen has been introduced for this 9.04 release.
One more important thing included is the support for the Ext4 filesystem. Yes, on Christmas eve, Linus Torvalds presented the kernel version 2.6.28 with stable support for the new Ext4 filesystem. The Ext4 filesystem is also one of the reasons for fast booting. More on Ext4 in next post.
Here is my desktop…
Enjoy the screenshot tour of this Alpha 6 release.
Next release will be a Beta release. Find the complete release schedule here.
And the story does not end after the 9.04 release, the developers already have plans for the next version 9.10. Mark Shuttleworth announced that the next version-Ubuntu 9.10 will be known as “Karmic Koala” which is due in October, 2009.
